BRIEF HISTORY

Great grain ranching area. Some dairying and orchards in the community. Shipping point for wheat and cattle. Hickman is across the Tuolumne River, a mile and a half south of Waterford. It takes its name after Louis M. Hickman, one time mayor and hardware merchant of Stockton. In the late 1860’s, Hickman married Mary Dallas, elder daughter of Charles Dallas, and came to live in the community.
