David E. Cogdill, Sr. MAI RM
Stanislaus County Assessor
Dave was elected Assessor in November of 2010 having run unopposed for the position.
He began his appraisal career in the Mono County Assessor's Office in 1971 and relocated to Modesto in 1979 where he worked for Robert Ford and Assoc., Inc. for 18 mos. before founding Cogdill and Giomi Real Estate Appraisers and Consultants a business he co-owned with David R. Giomi, MAI RM, until January of 2007.
He is a member of the California Assessor's Association and holds both the MAI and RM professional designations awarded by the Appraisal Institute. He is also a member of the California Water Commission, appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010.
In addition to Assessor, Dave has held a number of elected positions including Fire Commissioner for the Bridgeport Fire Protection District (Mono County), Modesto City Councilman and Vice Mayor, California State Assemblyman, and California State Senator. During his time in the Senate he served 10 months as Minority Leader.
Dave has received numerous honors for his public service including the prestigious "Profiles In Courage Award" from the John F. Kennedy Foundation, and the "Excellence in Leadership Award" from the Modesto Chamber of Commerce Leadership Modesto program.
He has served on the Boards of Directors of several non-profits including the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Stanislaus County, Stanislaus County Youth for Christ, and Christian Public Servants. Dave has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Maddy Institute (Fresno State University) for several years and currently serves as Board Chair. Dave has been a member of The Modesto Rotary Club for 20 years.
Dave and his wife of 41 years, Stephanie, live in East Modesto near their Son David Jr., his wife Carrie, and their two children Connor and Kathleen. Dave and Stephanie's Daughter Meghan, and her husband, Mike Merrell, also live in Modesto.
